I'm the bad guy

I'm pretty sure that I've posted clips from this show before, but I have found another clip that I've become obsessed with.  Recently, Craig McCraken's Disney Cartoon, "Wander over Yonder," released a musical episode, which seems pretty common for a children's cartoon.  However, this special was very striking, because McCraken stated that the animation budget was doubled for the one episode, making everything look incredibly smooth and fluid.  One scene from the episode that stuck with me was a song sung by the awesome Villainess, Lord Dominator.  Not only does she have a beautiful voice, but her flexible, and seductive movement made the entire scene irresistible to fall in love with.  Watch it below:

From her hip swinging, to her slow dancing, the high budget animation makes the entire scene shine, allowing Dominator to melt our hearts, as well as strike fear in them.
Pay attention, animators.  This is what a musical episode should look like!

What's with the reboot obsession?

If you're a Cartoon Network geek like me, then I'm sure that you've heard about the new Powerpuff Girls reboot.  Being a huge Powerpuff Girls fan myself, you would think that I would be excited about this.  I grew up with the show, I've idolized those girls, and I've been told that I can do a mean Bubbles impression.  However, I find myself not feeling the hype for the new girls, and my reasoning is all behind the scenes.  Craig McCraken, CREATOR of the Powerpuff Girls will be having nothing to do with the project, and that certainly shows when you look at some of the previews.  While the animation looks smooth, and well budgeted, the art style is what turns me off.  One of the things that made the Powerpuff Girls what it was was the unique art directions it went in.  Everything was drawn with nice thick lines, and very sharp edges.  It gave Townsville a personality, and it made every character very distinct looking from the next.  This reboot decided to go in the complete opposite direction, and made the lines thin, and round.... Just like every other show on Cartoon Network today.  The personality is gone, and I find it very hard to tell all of these characters apart, because they look like they can be on Steven Universe, or Clarence.
Maybe I'm just a ppg purist, but I feel like the reboot could be well done if it looked more inspired, and less like every cartoon I see today.

A nod to the future

This week, one of my animation-loving friends sent me a clip from Craig McCraken's Disney channel show, "Wonder over Yonder."  The clip featured a character flipping through channels, and finding a program titled as, "The Mystery Kids' Mysteries."  Here is the clip below:

What I love about this clip is how it is a cute little nod to both past as well as present animators.  The program shows a spoof hyrbid of 60s classic, "The Jetsons," and my personal favorite current cartoon, "Gravity Falls."  Gravity Falls creator, Alex Hirsch, as well as other gf voice actors featured in the spoof as alien-like caricatures of their respective characters.

This clip really sticks out to me, because as a lover of McCraken's past cartoons, (The Powerpuff Girls, Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends) I find it sweet that he is showing his support to younger show creators, such as Hirsch, who most likely looked up to him growing up.  The animation community is full of tight-knit friends, and it's interesting when you look at all of the names that appear in the different shows and movies we watch.
