Paste of Love

"Paste of Love" is a great example of syncing up sound and dialog to an animated story. The way in which the lips move on the characters is also creative since they are a toothbrush and squirt of toothpaste.  Ending gives a little bit of a twist, overall thought this was a good job at 3d animation from the University of Applied Sciences in Germany.

Perspective humor in animation

This week I was browsing youtube and came across this animated short called "Johnny Express". The animation 3d in design and has very smooth textures to give it a playful feel to the story. The humor comes in when there is the juxtaposition of the protagonist and the people of the planet. A funny parody perhaps to Independence day.  Anyways enjoy!

Content may be questionable, but techniques are undeniable.

For those of you who don't know, there's a whole unwritten subcategory on Youtube called Youtube Poop videos.  These videos consist of various nonsensical topics that just take random subjects and distort them with audio or video techniques, and some Youtubers go as far to make their own stories with the distorted content.  While some are incredibly easy to make, others take some very advanced techniques, like some of the techniques we're learning in class right now.

One of my favorite kinds of Youtube poop videos involves Michael Rosen, a children's story author who has videos of himself telling the stories.  What makes him great material for Youtube poop videos is that he makes so many funny noises and faces, so some amazing imagery can be concocted.  Some of them are absolutely hilarious, and this one in particular utilizes some notable editing techniques like keying, motion tracking, and even some forms of 3D animation.  Sure the story can be strange and offbeat, but the editing is actually really well done.  There was plenty of effort put into this, unlike a lot of other Youtube Poops on the web.

THE DANGEROUS ONES - A NINJA LOVE IS BLIND STORY is an animated youtube short film. It is about a minute and thirty seconds long. It is an adorable little work of art that if you can find the 2 minutes to spare might make you laugh. 

The Plot is based around a male ninja dressed in black that is eating at a diner. He turns around and sees a Female Ninja dressed in red and seems to like her. He grabs a flower off of his center piece and approaches her wishing to give her the flower. However, she thinks he is attacking her so she kicks his ass up and down the block. 

Finally after he is laying on the ground in pain she realizes that he was only trying to give her a flower and she reaches out to take it and then a sign that was damages as she was fighting him falls and launches him out into the air.

HAPPY TURKEY DAY

Hopefully wherever you find yourself on this day of thanks and giving you are with people you love or at the very least tolerate and are enjoying some time away from school. Yet, its hard to forget that its already thursday and there is in fact school next week so while my body and soul just want to sink into the couch and watch TV, my brain has kept some semblance of order and subconsciously led me to a very cool video showing the creative power that comes with an understanding of AfterEffects.

There really is nothing like watching a guy who used to work for the KGB and invaded Ukraine this year dancing like he just don't care. Which to be honest he probably doesn't because, like I mentioned, he decided to invade Ukraine and annex Crimea like this was 1914 not 2014. But I digress, what I found most interesting about this technique is that just by turning the parts of Putin's body into independent objects, this amount of life-like animation was possible. After almost a semester of this class i'm pretty confident we are capable of this which I this is very cool.

It Sucks, But It Really Doesn't

I'm a big believer in anti-humor. I find things funny that usually aren't intended to be funny. And I know there are a lot of people like me. For example, the above video shows some pretty bad CGI animations. A lot of people will blacklist these kinds of movies because the "effects suck". I personally find them very entertaining to watch. When a movie has special effects/CGI (especially nowadays with improved technology), the viewer won't vividly remember the movie unless it's really good, or really bad. It's fun to laugh at. I've had some of the best times watching movies with friends when it looked like shit and we could all sit around and have fun with watching it.

That sound kind of rude, I guess. But I'm not trying to insult the movie or those who made it. A good time is a good time. Sometimes you just want to have a good laugh. "Bad movie nights" are common amongst friends. I've heard too many people downplay a movie because the effects suck. Even if they "suck" chances are a lot of work was still put into them, and I respect that. People are far too critical. If you argue that it "takes away from the experience" and makes it less believable, I sort of respect that but at the same time, you can watch any video and when you emphasize in your head they're all actors and none of the effects are ACTUALLY real, it obviously makes it less believable. The good part about being an intelligent viewer is you can suspend belief to any extent you choose to. I cry every single time I watch Titanic even though I've seen pictures of Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet filming the ocean scene in the kiddie pool. Besides, this stuff is hard. I can't animate a damn 2D bird right so I'm not going to hate on movies with "bad CGI". But that's just me.

Kroll Show Title Sequence

    Last year, during my mass media research methods class, we had the opportunity to talk to a writer that worked on Portlandia, Arrested Development, and Comedy Central's Kroll Show. Our class watched the Kroll Show pilot before it was aired and the one part that stuck out was the animated intro sequence. Famous icons, fonts, and titles are recreated to say Kroll show and flashes quickly with the electronic music. This intro seems simplistic but graphic artists must've photoshopped each individual font and put it in the necessary background. The last Kroll Show title with the explosion in the city seems fairly easy to recreate. The only question I have about this sequence is how did Comedy Central get away with using all the fonts and titles from famous shows and games. I would think that there would be some type of copyright lawsuit of sorts. The show is quite funny but like many sketch comedies, it's either hit or miss and not all skits are funny.

KROLL SHOW INTRO

Game Grumps

First of all, let me explain about Game Grumps. Game Grumps is a channel on YouTube with two well-known internet celebrities, Egoraptor and JonTron. These two play video games and talk about random stuff that happens during their day. Egoraptor and JonTron are fans of many video games and decided to play them together to their combined fanbase.
These two play without a camera to show their faces, so all their fans hears them playing, but not see what they're doing. That is where this video comes in. This video is one of many that drew or animated spoofs of the Game Grumps, using various voice clips from their videos. This one is one of my favorites, since it's a dramatic movie trailer spoof, while in reality, they're just playing video games.

nope.avi

This video is called nope.avi, created by the YouTube user, Jimbomcb. It is a parody animation from the video game, Team Fortress 2. This video was made in 2010, yet it has gained over 7 million views to this date. Throughout the internet, this video was used as a response to many things instead of just saying "nope". This is a random video in my opinion, but watching it for the first time made me chuckle a bit. It's short, it's simple, it's just weird.

Just saw this video and became confused at what I just saw, but chuckled a bit.

The video was made by YouTube user, muffinsdotexe. From the looks of this video, it looked like it was made with models from Maya or 3DMax. Probably animated with the same program. I don't know why I brought up this video, but it's short and simple... I guess.

Baman Piderman

As I chose to do the animation project for my final, I went and looked back at the videos I had favorited on my YouTube account. There were many that could give me ideas on which style to make the animation. It was then I found this video called "Baman Piderman". It's a series of videos parodying Batman and Spiderman, but they're best friends and do silly things. They are available on the MondoMedia YouTube channel.

This is the first episode of the series, only around 30 seconds or so. I want my animation to have a fun animated style, but not like this. This was made in 2009, if I made the animation like this, then it would look rushed and lazy. But you would know what I mean. Something FUN.

Dorkly Animations

This sprite-animated video is one of many from the site, Dorkly.com. The site also features articles, pictures, and more. They are mostly known for their sprite-animated spoofs from popular video game series, such as Mario, Legend of Zelda, Banjo & Kazooie, and more. Dorkly also has a YouTube page featuring their videos. The sprite-animated videos are quite funny as they show usual ideas that happens in the video game universe. I enjoy their videos, except that some are quite vulgar, so beware of that before watching their videos.

TomSka Animations - asdfmovie

YouTube user, TomSka, made a series of random shorts that could get you chuckling if you enjoy animated people doing silly things. The series I'm talking about is asdfmovie. The name is as odd as the 6 episodes he's produced so far. The episodes have been made in Flash, simple, yet it works.

Each video is around 1-2 minutes each and more crazier than the last. The ideas used in each episode shows what would happen if you think outside the box.

Famous scenes changed

So in inspiration of our class project I decided to look up other examples where people inserted themselves into movie scenes. Here is one of them:




This is the red vs blue pill scene in The Matrix.  It's very hard to understand him but I think he did a pretty good job but there is one part that is not quite right.  When he sees himself in the reflection of Morpheus' glasses, Morpheus moves but he does not move.  Also there is like 1 frame where Neo is in it too.  Amateurly done, but still cool.
