Planet of the Apes

I've recently watched the movie, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and wow. The graphics in this movie are amazing. Not only do those monkeys look pretty realistic but looking it at a CGI point of view, I am  baffled on how they can get the motions so well done.

Definitely a movie worth checking out!

Ridiculousness at its Finest

Freddy and the Rocket Jump crew has been big in the youtube world for a while now. They're known for their violent gun fights using pretty sick motion graphics. I stumbled upon this hilarious video and while it isn't as complicated as their other videos, this one is so funny I had to share it.

The video is ridiculous, I know but the face peeling effect was really cool I thought. And what is a Rocket Jump video without some bloody gun fights? All in all, this video is really worth checking out.

Dubstep Guns

This is another example of something really cool that is more than doable using after effects. The only real problem with recreating this is making the 3D elements which would probably need to be done in Maya or Processing. Other than that it's possible for us to shoot the necessary footage and and combine that and 3D graphics in after effects. I really love this 80's neon look that these "lasers" have, It's a fantastic stylistic choice and is very underutilized in most media. It is sort of making a comeback though especially thanks to people like this who are doing some very high quality independent work.

After writing the top part here I did a little more digging and found this. Just in case anyone was curious about how these guys actually did it. I thought this was a very interesting and informative video on how they actually crated the shots, 3D elements, and motion in the video.

Russian vs. Snowman

I find this video very impressive.  Not only is the storyline ridiculous and funny, but there are some very good production qualities to it as well!  In fact, I’m not even sure if some of the things that I expect to be special effects, if they actually are or not.  The explosions in particular are soo realistic looking, that I am just beyond belief.  My first instinct is that these are special effects though, because many low budget productions like this wouldn’t actually use real explosions.  Along with that, I don’t know if a few of the explosions would actually behave as such in real life.  But in the even t that I am wrong and these are real guns and explosions, then all the more power to the production team!  This is a great video!
