Motion design is the most intricate and dynamic field of design. This video from the Hochschute für Künste (University of the Arts) Bremen introduces viewers to the many different aspects of motion design.
Ranging from color to sound, timing to physics, the video gives a vocabulary for discussing the art of motion. Taken by itself, the video covers so much in 23 minutes that it is worth taking notes on.
Since discussing what the class can do for our projects, I have been looking up different music videos with lyrics. I think this project is a great way to showcase the lyrics of a song. Last year, when I was filming a music video for another production class, I came across this music video by Coldplay. I like how they incorporate some words but also drew pictures on the wall as well (ex. trees, hearts, music notes). I have always wanted to do something similar to this, and now I can with the help of AfterEffects! I have been on a stop- motion kick recently, so of course this video has stop motion!
Another part of this video I love is the use of glow-in-the-dark paints. The colors are really bright and capture the audience's eye. This video also plays with the textures of buildings and bricks, giving an additional layer of interest. At the end of the video, paint splatters are animated so it looks as though paint is on the screen. The combination of stop motion, animation, and video keeps the audience wondering what is coming next. It is interesting and engaging until the very last drum set.

So as a kid I watched a lot of cartoons. One thing I loved about them were the theme songs. It always got me excited for the show. One title sequence in particular I always though was really cool, the intro to Teen Titans.
So I went back and looked at this sequence again. It impresses me even more now. The use of color is extremely important in the sequence. Each one of the characters has a specific color that is associated with them. The colors get repeated throughout the opening and signal to the audience what characters are being talked about. The thing that I find really cool is how the words Teen Titans are constantly manipulated throughout the open. Every shot is working within the context of one of the letters. The transitions between the shots are matched with the music and are all involving the letters in some way. Making the open one fluid piece that just continually transitions is so cool and must have taken a ton of planning. Not only was Teen Titans a great cartoon, this opening is amazing.
