Amazing student film done in Maya

Above is a link to a short film I found today on Vimeo from Jacob Frey.  It was his senior thesis film from the Institute of Animation, Visual Effects and Digital Post-production in Germany.  I just find it to be so amazing that people our age are capable of producing 3D animation that looks this amazing. It's a simple short story, but I would say it could hold it's own against anything Pixar or Dreamworks put out in terms of technical quality.

Zombpocalypse

Since I've kinda run out of zombie movies to watch from last semester, I turned to YouTube. As a student hoping to make a zombie movie, this is a great inspiration. It is a student film written, directed, filmed, and edited by a high school student. The sound effects are spectacular, very well written, and the special effects are pretty awesome. Definitely something everyone should watch.

My Stepdad's A Freakin Vampire

This comedy/action/horror feature film made by 22 year old student filmmaker David Matheny was made entirely in Adobe After Effects. He taught himself how to use the program and created dozens of visual effects shots for the film. For a film made out of his Dad's basement by a first time After Effects user, this looks absolutely amazing.

Here is a trailer for the film

And here is David himself talking about how he made it
