Over the weekend I was finally able to see probably one of
the greatest animations Disney has put out in recent years, Zootopia! And while
it is a rockin’ children’s film it is also very culturally relevant and people
of all ages have most definitely enjoyed it. I mean went to see this film in
theaters about last week and the theater was nearly full. Zootopia has most
definitely rekindled my love for watching not only animations but movies in
general. Although Zootopia is most definitely a movie for children, there are
some jokes that are thrown in there for it’s probably not so intended older
audience. Zootopia is more than just a children's movie that is about how any
“animal” can be what it wants to be when it grows up but goes into the deeper
relations with other “animals” that aren’t like you. The Predator vs. Prey
dynamic is a main story element and the way that it is deal with in a way that
shows not all Predators are evil at heart but also not all Prey are always
innocent. This film shows a a wide range of characters that could easily be
from the everyday life and because of this it is easily one of the most
relatable Disney Animations to date.

I'm the bad guy
I'm pretty sure that I've posted clips from this show before, but I have found another clip that I've become obsessed with. Recently, Craig McCraken's Disney Cartoon, "Wander over Yonder," released a musical episode, which seems pretty common for a children's cartoon. However, this special was very striking, because McCraken stated that the animation budget was doubled for the one episode, making everything look incredibly smooth and fluid. One scene from the episode that stuck with me was a song sung by the awesome Villainess, Lord Dominator. Not only does she have a beautiful voice, but her flexible, and seductive movement made the entire scene irresistible to fall in love with. Watch it below:
From her hip swinging, to her slow dancing, the high budget animation makes the entire scene shine, allowing Dominator to melt our hearts, as well as strike fear in them.
Pay attention, animators. This is what a musical episode should look like!

Lost Disney Animation From 1920s Discovered
Film archivists in London just rediscovered a long-lost Walt Disney animated film "Sleigh Bells" from 1928 that features Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, who was the prototype for the legendary Mickey Mouse. Oswald was created by Walt Disney himself in 1927, and was loved for his mischievous and rebellious personality.
The animation was buried away in the national archive of the British Film Institute. The animation itself is six minutes long and was feared to be lost forever as it has not been seen since it's 1928 release. However, a researcher browsing the BFI catalogue came across the film as they were looking for lost Disney titles and recognized the words Sleigh Bells. It is very easy for a short to get lost as there are around 1million items in the archive.
The film has now been restored by Walt Disney Animation Studios and will get it's world premiere at BFU in London next month. To watch a snippet of the short click here.
