Avatar was a film that used programs like photoshop and after effects to create the most realistic fantasy world that was possible. The world of Pandora looks so real that when you're watching you don't even realize it is animated.
The way this film was made was different than most animated films. Instead of having the actors come in and read line and then have the animators create bodies for them James Cameron used motion capture to make the Avatars look as realistic as possible.
