Motion Graphics Internships- LA Edition

With the popularity of the Los Angeles program for Park students, I thought it might be helpful to review some motion graphic production companies in the LA area for anyone who is planning on participating in the LA program, and looking for an internship that involves motion graphics.

The first company I chose to highlight is Oxygen Productions. Their headquarters is located in Santa Cruz, CA, and have a very extensive repertoire of companies they have designed for. Included among these are Hewlett Packard, Sony, The Disney Channel, eBay, National Geographic, and many more. (I could not find a source code for the video, so please click here to view their promo video for Meizu Technology Co., Ltd.)

Saturday Entertainment is a production company that is currently advertising their need for interns. They are a start-up company, so their website is basically just an email address, BUT in their internship descriptions they do state that the internship could lead to employment. If you're into Sci-Fi and/or thriller movies, you might want to check out Saturday Entertainment, located in Los Angeles. For more information, send them an email.

Finally, the Game Show Network (GSN) has also advertised their interested in a "Graphics On Air Promotions" intern. Interns are offered the hands-on opportunity to create logos and graphics, animate them, as well as utilize 3D elements. Their office is located in Santa Monica, CA, and are looking for an intern for at least 3 days a week. Currently, their listing only indicates an interest in interns for the fall. However, if this seems like the perfect internship for you, I would suggest contacting the GSN.

Obviously, there are a great many more opportunities out there, but these are a few ideas to get you started. One website I've used for searching for an internship is called Entertainment Careers. You can limit your search to specific cities and key words to find the exact internship you're looking for.

  1. Probably the most efficient way to look for internships is to browse the Internship Database. You will find around 1200, with about 400 in NYC alone! You will find contact information as well as (very important) the description of required or suggested skills you need for that particular position.

Once you pick a few options you can then talk to Eliose Green who will guide you through the process.

There are also the London internships and program which offers a very different exposure and exciting opportunities that are worth considering.

Finally, as some of you already know, specially if you attended the information session last Thursday and Friday, IC has opened its New York program, a collaboration between Park and the Business School, with a direct link with the NYC area internship opportunities.
